Meet our Team Leader
With over 10 years of experience working with children, I have experience teaching in a variety of ways.
I am professionally certified in the Montessori method, I graduated from the Early Childhood Education diploma program from Red River College, as well as completed the Forest School Practitioner course through Forest School Canada.
All of that training has led me to worked in a variety of settings, from large daycare centres to time as a private nanny.
As a parent of two school-age kids as well, I have acquired a very holistic approach to connecting with children.
Social and emotional intelligence is of my top priority for kids of all ages. When we feel better we do better and when we have the confidence in ourselves we are capable of learning anything and everything!
The freedom of outside and the soothing power of nature is the surest way to have a child grow into their best selves.
I look so forward to meeting you and your children at the Empowering Kids Nature Camp! It is going to be such a beautiful program to be a part of!
Hello there! My name is Madigan. My interest in working with children began when I was taking a diploma in Behavioural Science. After a placement in a grade 2 classroom, I knew that I wanted to teach children, but my image of how that would look would change over the next few years as I pursued the path. After graduating, I decided to continue my education by taking a diploma in Early Childhood Education. During this time, I became very drawn toward alternative forms of education. I had spent a few summers with my cousin who had a diagnosis of ADHD and was struggling in the public school system. I knew in my heart that there had to be another option for kids like him, an option that didn't include medication. He had attended some outdoor education programs and I couldn't help but notice the difference in his interest and mood at the end of the day. This understanding helped fuel my path toward forest school education. During my second diploma, I began learning more about the forest school movement in Canada and learned that there was a training course for those who were interested in teaching in this way. After finishing up at college, I enrolled in the course and started more intensely my journey toward teaching outdoors. Since then, I have travelled and visited different forest school programs around Canada and have been seeing first hand the benefits of children getting outside! I am so excited for this opportunity to work at Empowering Minds Camp as I guide and mentor children in the great outdoors!
